Evening slowdowns usually come from household traffic, crowded Wi-Fi or shared ISP capacity. A timed comparison shows which one you have.
1. Confirm the time pattern
Run three tests during a fast period and three during the slowdown. Use the same device and server. Compare not only download speed but upload, ping, jitter and packet loss.
2. Eliminate traffic inside your home
Smart TVs, cloud photo backups, security cameras and game updates often become active after work. Pause them or check the router traffic page. A saturated upload can make browsing and gaming feel slow even when download capacity remains.
3. Separate Wi-Fi from ISP congestion
Test beside the router and then with Ethernet. If wired performance stays normal, improve Wi-Fi placement, channels or mesh backhaul. If wired speed and latency degrade at the same hours, the bottleneck is probably outside the wireless network.
4. Build a useful ISP support case
Record the date, time, wired speed, ping and modem status for several nights. Ask the provider to check signal levels, errors and local-node utilization. Evidence is more actionable than saying the internet feels slow.
