Internet Slow With VPN On? Reduce Speed Loss Without Sacrificing Security
A VPN encrypts traffic and sends it through an additional gateway, so some overhead is normal. Large losses usually point to a distant or loaded server, protocol mismatch, weak device, MTU issue or a slow connection before encryption.
Create a fair baseline
Use the same device, location, wired or Wi-Fi connection, nearby test server and time window. Pause downloads, then run three tests without the VPN and three through one fixed VPN endpoint. Record download, upload, idle Ping and loaded Ping.
