Internet Stability Test

Measure more than peak download speed. A useful internet stability test compares repeated speed, ping, jitter and loaded latency results to reveal drops, congestion and bufferbloat.

Run a repeatable connection stability test

Use the same device and server, pause background traffic and run three tests within ten minutes. Repeat in the morning and during the evening peak, recording connection type and location.

Separate WiFi, router and ISP problems

Test by Ethernet first, then beside the router and in the affected room. If only WiFi varies, investigate interference and coverage. If Ethernet also varies, restart network equipment and compare several times before contacting the ISP.

Can one speed test prove that my internet is stable?

No. Stability requires repeated measurements under the same conditions and comparisons across times, rooms and wired versus WiFi connections.

What indicates an unstable connection?

Large speed swings, high jitter, packet loss, sudden loaded-latency increases and repeated disconnects are common warning signs.

How do I find whether WiFi or the ISP is unstable?

Compare Ethernet with WiFi on the same device. Stable Ethernet with unstable WiFi points to the wireless network; both failing suggests equipment, line or ISP congestion.
